So, who here wants Carlisle to be Isiah's replacement a second time?
I wouldn't be against the idea, as long as Curry was OK with it, while retaining Zeke as GM.
I feel like Isiah may have already done the big job...essentially stitching this team back together and setting up a basic structure, at least on the offensive side of the ball. He was the best guy to do that job as he acquired these players and has their trust.
Now the team might benefit from an X and 0s guy who would know how to better utilize the tools we have...Curry as dominating post guy, Jamal as creator/firecracker, Marbury as veteran third option, Frye's mid-range jumper, Mardy as steady distributor, Balkman as defensive disruptor, Lee as energizer/rebounder...you get the idea.
Some roles have been established, and Carlisle, one of the better coaches in the league, would probably do a better job using them.
Just saying.
ps. nice site fwk. i've been posting over on elba just because its an easier posting format and some of the old characters are there. hopefully we figure out a single site to rebuild our community again.

Carlisle?
Hey, Joe Dumars dumped him for Larry Brown.
Carlisle, is one of those guys who players eventually tune out. Yes, he is a good X and O's guy, but that means nothing if your players don't want to play for you. In all fairness, no Reggie, no team, and losing Artest and Peja and Jackson and Harrington was a disaster. Carlisle walking the plank for Larry Bird.
Don Nelson is not much of an X and O's guy, but he has the right players for his system and they love playing for him.
It's a chemistry thing. Knicks played hard for Isiah, but did they play smart. Isiah wouldn't undress them in public the way Larry did, and we won ten more games.
Not a great step forward, and injruies do not totally exonerate Isiah.
But this year was a transitonal, growing experience for Isiah and his charges.
Dolan is committed to Isiah, be that as it may, there is no way Carlisle ends up on the Knicks.
So we're committed to another mediocre year under Isiah before hiring a real coach?

You know Isiah could be the next Phil Jackson. Isiah understands the athlete mentality and gets players willing to walk thru walls for him. Seems to me what he needs is some top-flight assistants to help him implement a system and bring about measurable progress. Not knocking Isiah, just trying to maximize his strengths and get complementary help in other areas. (Much as I think Isiah is the draft guru, but Grunwald might help him with trades and cap implications).
Phil had Johnny Bach and Tex Winter devising schemes. Phil was the director and leader. Or like Byron Scott with Eddie Jordan's offense. Even Carlisle used to be a defensive assistant.
Which I guess begs the question, who are our assistants and what do they do? Aguirre works with the Bigs on post moves and such. Do we have a Free Throw coach? Herb and Glymph are still with us? One of Lenny's boys? ANyone know?
Now that i think about it, what I'm suggesting is also the way that Larry Bird coached.
Isiah can be involved at whatever level works.
But maybe we need some top-flight assistants to make things work.
Looks like they'll be some ex-coaches on the market, who might take a NY assistantship. Musselman, Adelman is out there, Silas -- though maybe his style is too similar to Isiah's, Hill, Carlisle and probably some others, including iavaroni if he doesn't land a coaching gig.
Carlisle was the offensive coordinator under Bird.
By most accounts, Bird as head coach of the Pacers was an honorary position, and that was recognized by Detroit when they snagged Carlisle to head the Pistons after Bird stepped down.
Chip, players eventually tune their coaches out, thats just a fact of the game. I don't know if there is any reason to say this happens to Carlisle more than any other coach.
His leaving Detroit had nothing to do with the performance of his players. The organization reached to pick up Brown.
And in Indiana I think the outside distractions were the biggest factor in the team losing focus. Oneal more upset with what he sees as the organizations lack of dedication to winning than his coach, especially after that trade.
But a four year stint anywhere these days isn't reason to question a coach's longevity.
I say before we start throwing every coach who gets fired at Isaih lets give Zeke another year and see where we're at. West gets fired,Carlisle gets fired,Telfair gets fired everyone throwing someone elses trash at Isaih. We have assistants to many I think but it is what it is. We didn't do bad this season considering our rookies and sophomores logged a ton of minutes and we were still in until the end when our vets started dropping. The value of our players have went up tremendously contrary to what others think and I feel Zeke will be busy this offseason upgrading the talent on this team.
Looks like Herb is a candidate for Indy.
And Larry Brown is interviewing for head coach in Memphis.
Not to mention Lenny apparently ready to take charge of basketball operations in Seattle and choose the next coach there.
So I guess the question is ...
... where is Duck Chaney?
