Everybody gets on Isaih BUT Larry BIrd should be FIRED
and no one has nothing to say about him or Danny ainge with the celtics (granted they have a few good pieces now) but after how many years of bad decisions and high draft picks. Bird gutted out a playoff team, traded away the majority of indianas assetts and yet he is still praised by peter vecsey and his media comrads. No the knicks aren't great and when Isaih says I think we're good where we are right now thats him keeping the trade value high, of course we know Isaih will trade everybody on this team except Steph and Curry and I fully expect him to pursue every free agent on the market except this time he won't get shafted like he did by Paxson. Something that could have happened to any YOUND GM trying to upgrade a depleted roster.

Here, dear readers, is the final resting place of all weary Knicks fans. Yes, here is where one comes when the Triangle refuses to have three sides, when biting one's lip from losing to win later is one loss too far,or when said fan simply hits 'rock' bottom. In short, "the ship be" eternally "sinking" here. Welcome aboard, rearrange the deck chairs as you please.

Ainge is actually getting a lot of flak these days. McHale is another former Celtic who was given a lot more space and benefit of the doubt than was ever afforded Isiah, but who is only now receiving comparable scrutiny.
But I agree that Bird is still receiving a free pass.
I think it largely comes down to Wins and Losses.
Two seasons ago, antWalker returned to the Celts and they won the division and made some playoff noise (I think I have my time frame and facts right). That bit of winning gave Ainge some breathing room. Also his yutes looked promising. Ainge has gotten a lot of flak for now having two losing seasons. And Telfair isn't working out, which could have been another high pick.
McHale got a pass for a while because they would make the playoffs with Garnett. When the criticism started up, he got them to the conference Finals with Spree and Cassell. Winning gives you a little breathing space. Now McHale is getting flak with all of the losing, especially after they tanked with their new coach.
Similarly, this is the first year Indiana missed the playoffs. And the brawl and Artest nonsense seemed like reasonably valid excuses. But now they are losing, and made a horrible trade for the long contracts of Murphy and Dumbleavy.
One other factor is that Bird is an Indiana legend, McHale a Minny hero, and Ainge a former Celtic winner. That provides some extra insulation. Also these are smaller markets with less and less aggressive media (though Boston isn't too different).
Otoh, Isiah has no history or connection with the Knicks except for his GM and coaching tenure here. And the losses allow folks to pile on. We've had less than 60 wins in the past two seasons combined. Some promising youth and role players, but lots of coaching mistakes, MLE blunders, and extremely poor return on salaries invested.
Look at win/loss records for the past three years fro Indy-Minny-Boston-NY, and I think that explains 75% of the level of criticism the GM receives.
I'm not arguing that W's & L's should be the main or sole criteria, just that I think that's what is primarily used. Also, making the playoffs represents significant achievement.
I think Bird has his team heading for a nosedive, and if the losses continue another season or two, he'll indeed get flak. Ainge and Rivers are already being dissected, and need a good season next year or one or both will likely get canned.
Two plus years of losing attracts detractors. Deal with it.
Worth noting how many black for white trades Bird made. Coincidence?
Bird backed out of Artest for Corey Meggette...haha. Then ended up with Peja, who proceeded to walk without any compensation.
And anyone who watched Golden State grind Dallas into the ground last night has to see the trade Mullin orchestrated with Bird as the steal of the century. Harrington is an excellent all around man at PF-SF and Center in Nelson's system, and Stephen Jackson is explosive.
Troy Murphy and Dunleavy are softer than Dairy Queen. Props to Mullin for hiring Nelson, drafting the HS kid [Monte Ellis?] and trading for Baron Davis. Adonal Foyle was a bust, but we all tend to overpay for bigs.
Bird also passed on Marcus Williams and Rondo and Mardy when he was loaded at SF, and Jamal is incredibly injury prone.
To be fair, Indiana never receovered from losing Reggie Miller anymore than we did from losing Patrick and LJ.

Chip - I agree about the Mullin heist. I had been pretty down on most of the decisions Mullin had made (signing Foyle to huge money, overpaying a bit for J-Rich, wrong coach in Montgomery, strange draft picks in Biedrins and O'Bryant). But this year, Biedrins has redeemed himself, Ellis looks like a steal, Mullin has absolutely owned the waiver wire, he mugged Larry Bird, and the Nelson hiring looks intelligent (and I had thought Nellie was cooked)
