The 2008 Draft Problem

I just don't care for many of the high picks in this draft but I don't see us trading it unless its for dual lower picks (something I would be very in favor of).

The PG's I like, Belmont's Alex Renfroe and Sean Singletary could probably just be invited to camp or bought as second round picks. Singletary is slightly undersized but a nice aggressive player. Renfroe just looked spectacular the other night - very impressive play.

Now aside from PG's, I want one of: Joe Alexander, Tyler Hansbrough, or Richard Hendrix - all three hustle, motivational players. Hendrix, the ultimate sleeper of the three.

There are a few other players (Lawson?) who have not made a decision yet but I'm very much in favor of trading down if the price is right.

Thumbs and Toes down to trading for TJ Ford. NO, NO, NO! I'd rather dangle the pick and moving Curry for Calderon and their #18 (say, Alexander, Hanbrough, Hendrix or a dropping center candidate - say, Javale McGee, Robin Lopez, or Hasheem Thabeet - can any of them perform worse than Curry?).






If Dallas flounders, Dirk will be in play and Dallas may very well bite on a Stephon for Kidd swap. Stephon has been a huge Katrina supporter and Dallas may be someplace where he can get his ring as well as redeem his career.

Alright, I'm starting my list of draft picks

The kid that impressed me greatly was Belmont's Alex Renfroe. Quickness, great wingspan, and looks like pro material.

To hell with Rose and all the high picks. Whatever year Renfroe declares for the draft, I expect the Knicks to be interested.

Let me add Joe Alexander of West Virginia as another player who looks like a sleeper.

David Stern's Secret Knicks Plan Revealed

By now everyone knows that David Stern expects big changes for the Knicks this summer.

This blog, ever so vigilant for clues as to what the hell Stern could be talking about has examined the flight logs of James Dolan.

About a week ago, Mark Cuban joked about freezing envelopes during the draft. Little did Cuban realize Dolan's secret plan - that is why not take advantage of the Rangers ability to freeze the garden and draft someone like Wim Hof aka "The Iceman":

But let's not forget about Dolan's European flights where he's scouting this guy:

Isiah's Replacement? Why Cheryl Miller of Course

Reggie Miller's sister, TV's basketball analyst extraordinare is a perfect replacement for Isiah Thomas who isn't going anywhere any time soon. A bored and boring New York press corp, however, has nothing to do but hallucinate about "what if" scenarios.

Hey, there is as much chance of Cherl Miller becoming President and GM of the Knicks as Donnie Walsh, Jerry Colangelo, or Frank Isola.

Why James Dolan would hire Miller?

I miss Larry Brown - at least he talked to the press, wanted to lose the roster, and had fewer lineup changes two years ago than we've had this year (at least it feels that way).

In fact I miss the old New York Times forum where someone would complain about me not talking basketball at a time like this.

Isiah's Tenure

Isiah isn't going anywhere unless he decides to. There are plenty of fans who hate him and there are plenty of NY Sportswriters who feed that hate. None of them get it.

Dolan signed Isiah to do a job knowing that it wouldn't be easy and that continuously playing musical chairs with the organization would ensure never achieving success. Dolan did something that created a comfort zone for everyone involved, Dolan handed the reigns of the Knicks to Thomas with the understanding that there would be no second-guessing or threat of firing should the Knicks not instantly improve.

The press insists that Zeke will get fired or that Dolan or Mills or Thomas are all feuding and in political turmoil. It sells papers but has yet to show any veracity.

I think Isiah is telling the truth that he's staying to create a championship team. Before the trade deadline the NY Sportswriters were sowing fear that Zeke needed to "win now" to save his job. Obviously he did not have any such need although I'm sure he prefers winning to losing.

However, I share Earl Monroe's bewilderment as to why Zeke did not pull off a trade before the recent deadline expired. While I am convinced that the Knicks are very close to developing a winning team, they obviously have personnel issues in terms of redundancy and need.

This summer looks to be a busy one - for Zeke and the Knicks.
