The 2008 Draft Problem

I just don't care for many of the high picks in this draft but I don't see us trading it unless its for dual lower picks (something I would be very in favor of).

The PG's I like, Belmont's Alex Renfroe and Sean Singletary could probably just be invited to camp or bought as second round picks. Singletary is slightly undersized but a nice aggressive player. Renfroe just looked spectacular the other night - very impressive play.

Now aside from PG's, I want one of: Joe Alexander, Tyler Hansbrough, or Richard Hendrix - all three hustle, motivational players. Hendrix, the ultimate sleeper of the three.

There are a few other players (Lawson?) who have not made a decision yet but I'm very much in favor of trading down if the price is right.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thumbs and Toes down to trading for TJ Ford. NO, NO, NO! I'd rather dangle the pick and moving Curry for Calderon and their #18 (say, Alexander, Hanbrough, Hendrix or a dropping center candidate - say, Javale McGee, Robin Lopez, or Hasheem Thabeet - can any of them perform worse than Curry?).

If Dallas flounders, Dirk will be in play and Dallas may very well bite on a Stephon for Kidd swap. Stephon has been a huge Katrina supporter and Dallas may be someplace where he can get his ring as well as redeem his career.

Good Lord, Knicks Beat Heat

I know what you're thinking, GEEEEEEEEEEZUZ, they haven't practiced in over a year and the got-damn Heat managed to out-tankerize the Knicks.

Look, Jerome James gets paid big bucks just for games like these. What is he doing on the sidelines? Practicing?

C'mon coaches, you can't let games like this slip away anymore.

Pacers, Grizzlies, T-Wolves, and Nets all whup Knicks

Boring. Let's see that's losses 48, through 51.

Alright, I'm starting my list of draft picks

The kid that impressed me greatly was Belmont's Alex Renfroe. Quickness, great wingspan, and looks like pro material.

To hell with Rose and all the high picks. Whatever year Renfroe declares for the draft, I expect the Knicks to be interested.

Let me add Joe Alexander of West Virginia as another player who looks like a sleeper.

David Stern's Secret Knicks Plan Revealed

By now everyone knows that David Stern expects big changes for the Knicks this summer.

This blog, ever so vigilant for clues as to what the hell Stern could be talking about has examined the flight logs of James Dolan.

About a week ago, Mark Cuban joked about freezing envelopes during the draft. Little did Cuban realize Dolan's secret plan - that is why not take advantage of the Rangers ability to freeze the garden and draft someone like Wim Hof aka "The Iceman":
Hof began a lifelong quest to see just how far his abilities would take him. In January of 1999 he traveled 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle to run a half-marathon in his bare feet. Three years later, dressed only in a swimsuit, he dove under the ice at the North Pole and earned a Guinness World Record for the longest amount of time swimming under the ice: 80 meters, almost twice the length of an Olympic-sized pool.

When he didn't experience frostbite or hypothermia, the body's usual reactions to extreme cold, his extraordinary ability started to get the attention of doctors who specialize in extreme medicine.

Dr. Ken Kamler, author of "Surviving the Extremes," has treated dozens of people who tried to climb Mount Everest, and instead nearly died from the frigid temperatures. He couldn't believe it when he got word of a Dutchman making the ascent with no protection other than a pair of shorts.

"People are always looking for new firsts on Everest. It's been climbed so many times now, people climb it without oxygen, they … they climb it with all different kinds of handicaps. But no one has come close to climbing Everest in those kinds of conditions," Dr. Kamler said. "It's … it's almost inconceivable."
That's right, draft a guy who can play basketball in shorts on an ice rink! Let's see Kobe dunk in snowshoes and thermal underwear - not gonna happen.

Freeze the Garden - 40 wins guaranteed. Wim will be moving up the draft charts any day now.

But let's not forget about Dolan's European flights where he's scouting this guy:
Recent measurements show that Stadnik is already 7 inches taller than Radhouane Charbib of Tunisia, listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest living man.

He’s also gaining on the 8-11 Robert Wadlow, the tallest man in history. Yet for Stadnik, the prospect of becoming a record-holder would be little comfort.

“My two-year-old suit’s sleeves and pants are now 30 centimeters (12 inches) shorter than I need,” said Stadnik. “My height is God’s punishment. My life has no sense.”
Imagine drafting an 8' center who thinks God is punishing him now. Wait until he meets the New York Press Corp.

Oh what a summer this will be at the Garden... er, rink.

Isiah's Replacement? Why Cheryl Miller of Course

Reggie Miller's sister, TV's basketball analyst extraordinare is a perfect replacement for Isiah Thomas who isn't going anywhere any time soon. A bored and boring New York press corp, however, has nothing to do but hallucinate about "what if" scenarios.

Hey, there is as much chance of Cherl Miller becoming President and GM of the Knicks as Donnie Walsh, Jerry Colangelo, or Frank Isola.

Why James Dolan would hire Miller?

Because he's James Dolan, that's why.

Why it won't happen?

Because he's James Dolan, that's why.

I miss Larry Brown - at least he talked to the press, wanted to lose the roster, and had fewer lineup changes two years ago than we've had this year (at least it feels that way).

In fact I miss the old New York Times forum where someone would complain about me not talking basketball at a time like this.

Flinter... where are you?

We all need a tale.

Portland Trailblaze Knicks

Let's see, how do I phrase this... loss #45. Hard to believe the games have to be played. I guess all the stats in tanking efforts will someday be used to usurp the HOF records of players who never played to lose, but hey, so what?

Isiah's Tenure

Isiah isn't going anywhere unless he decides to. There are plenty of fans who hate him and there are plenty of NY Sportswriters who feed that hate. None of them get it.

Dolan signed Isiah to do a job knowing that it wouldn't be easy and that continuously playing musical chairs with the organization would ensure never achieving success. Dolan did something that created a comfort zone for everyone involved, Dolan handed the reigns of the Knicks to Thomas with the understanding that there would be no second-guessing or threat of firing should the Knicks not instantly improve.

The press insists that Zeke will get fired or that Dolan or Mills or Thomas are all feuding and in political turmoil. It sells papers but has yet to show any veracity.

I think Isiah is telling the truth that he's staying to create a championship team. Before the trade deadline the NY Sportswriters were sowing fear that Zeke needed to "win now" to save his job. Obviously he did not have any such need although I'm sure he prefers winning to losing.

However, I share Earl Monroe's bewilderment as to why Zeke did not pull off a trade before the recent deadline expired. While I am convinced that the Knicks are very close to developing a winning team, they obviously have personnel issues in terms of redundancy and need.

This summer looks to be a busy one - for Zeke and the Knicks.

Ye Newe Glory-torium

Here, dear readers, is the final resting place of all weary Knicks fans. Yes, here is where one comes when the Triangle refuses to have three sides, when biting one's lip from losing to win later is one loss too far,or when said fan simply hits 'rock' bottom. In short, "the ship be" eternally "sinking" here. Welcome aboard, rearrange the deck chairs as you please.
